Next Stop, Inter BEE 2022: VVC, 8K Live, LCEVC and more

It has been wonderful watching our industry, and the world at large, open more fully in 2022. From an industry perspective, big shows like NAB and IBC were back to business after extended hiatuses. The same goes for regional events. In Japan, while Inter BEE 2021 did take place, it was much smaller and quieter than the shows we had grown used to prior to 2020. Inter BEE this year promises a return to normalcy with the expo hall back to full capacity and open to global visitors.

MainConcept codecs have advanced significantly in the past two years. So much so that we decided to book a booth at Inter BEE 2022 to share what is new with the industry. Much like in Las Vegas (NAB) and Amsterdam (IBC), we are preparing to highlight both the present and future of video and audio with some compelling demos, all delivering on technical innovations requested by the industry.

Here is what we are showing at Inter BEE 2022

VVC & 8K Live in the Cloud

Cloud and hybrid solutions have overtaken traditional on-premise storage as cloud provides tremendous scalability and accessibility for organizations. There is no going back to a single distribution model. Future workflows need to support expanding resolutions (8K) and new codecs (VVC). MainConcept has advanced cloud delivery in two key areas with that eye on the future.

  • 8K Live: Incorporating numerous MainConcept products such as HEVC, GPU hybrid and Live Encoder, we are encoding 8K content in AWS and playing it live in the Makuhari Messe Convention Center in multiple layers: 8K, 4K and 720p. The results are shared via dashboard showing a real-time readout of the system’s CPU, RAM and four GPUs.
  • VVC Live: The Versatile Video Codec (VVC) is no longer on the horizon—it has arrived! MainConcept’s latest VVC iteration brings 4K encoding and playback live to Inter BEE, highlighting the advanced compression and deliverability promised in this new codec. You can read more about our VVC advancements in this recent blog post or register for our November 10 webinar.

Real-time encoding with AVC + LCEVC

MainConcept and V-Nova, LCEVC’s principal developer, have been collaborating for quite some time. At Inter BEE, we will show how the LCEVC layer allows you to upgrade your HD service to a better 4K quality with minimal encoding overhead while better supporting legacy users. MainConcept AVC with LCEVC has the potential to extend the lifespan of existing devices by delivering an improved visual experience on older hardware, thus extending the time to upgrade.

Content Creation Lab

This is a favorite for those who like to dig into the details while learning more about how MainConcept engineers the essential ingredients for production, broadcast and streaming products. The MainConcept Content Creation Lab allows every user to easily evaluate the compatibility and quality of encoded files, review the console log and command line parameters using the MainConcept plugins for FFmpeg. Lab tests include compatibility for Fraunhofer, Panasonic and Sony plugins as well as VVC, HEVC and AVC software.

You can see all of this and learn from our codec experts by visiting us in Hall 7, Booth #7510. Schedule a meeting with us here or just drop by. MainConcept codecs power over 90% of the world’s professional video workflows, so you can expect our technology to be present behind the scenes in countless partner booths, including Avid, Blackmagic Design, Capella Systems, Fraunhofer, Grass Valley and Ikegami.
